In Japan, a 72-year-old South Korean who entered the country using his brother's passport and a 15-day tourist visa was reportedly detained after 33 years.
A South Korean man who entered Japan on a 15-day tourist visa and remained in the country for 33 years has been taken into custody.

According to a report by The Japan Times, police officials in the Shizuoka region made a statement on the matter. In the statement, it was reported that a 72-year-old South Korean man, believed to have entered the country in 1993 with his brother's passport and a 15-day tourist visa, was taken into custody following a tip-off.
In the statement, it was also noted that the detained individual said he entered the country hoping to find a higher-paying job, and that he admitted to his crime.
IT WAS NOT A PUNISHABLE OFFENSE UNTIL 2000
In Japan, overstaying a visa was not a punishable offense until the revised immigration law took effect in 2000. In this context, the individual is stated to have overstayed his visa by 26 years and will be evaluated accordingly.
