A doctor specializing in orthopedics at Manisa Celal Bayar University Hospital was arrested on allegations of demanding money from patients to perform their surgeries. It was determined that he received a total of 2,649,500 lira from 51 patients.
An orthopedics specialist working at Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital was arrested on allegations of demanding money from patients in exchange for performing their surgeries himself.
INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED FOLLOWING PATIENT COMPLAINT
Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Manisa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an examination was initiated based on the claim that orthopedics specialist S.E. asked his patient I.G. on March 19 to send 45,000 lira to his personal bank account to perform his surgery.
Accordingly, the doctor's bank account transactions between August 1, 2025, and April 30, 2026, were examined. According to the findings, it was determined that S.E. demanded amounts ranging from 22,000 to 195,000 lira from 51 patients, who had applied to the hospital for examination, paid the required fees to the hospital cashier, and whose surgery costs were covered by the Social Security Institution, in exchange for performing their surgeries himself.
OBTAINED ILLEGAL GAIN OF 2 MILLION 650 THOUSAND LIRA
It was alleged that these payments were documented through bank EFT records, and patients were told that if they did not make the payments, their surgeries would be performed by assistant physicians.
According to bank records, it was determined that a total of 2 million 649 thousand 500 lira in unjust gain was obtained across 51 separate acts, and it was noted that amounts considered to have been received in person or in cash were not included in this figure.
Furthermore, it was determined that the suspect established contact in this manner with 30 individuals who were harmed by the crimes identified during the investigation.
S.E., who was taken into custody, was arrested on charges of "extortion by coercion" by the criminal judgeship of peace to which he was referred after the procedures.
