The argument started when a citizen responded in a racist manner after the Arab tourists asked a question. The citizen, who shouted at the Arab tourist, "This is Turkey, you will speak Turkish," was removed from the metro after other passengers reacted. A "speak Turkish" argument occurred between a Turkish and an Arab passenger on the Yenikapı-Hacıosman metro in Istanbul. When Arab tourists boarded the metro, they asked a question to the citizens sitting in the seats. Then, one individual among the citizens responded to the tourists in a racist manner. The person, who continued the verbal argument, made hand and arm gestures towards the tourists and hurled insults.
OTHER PASSENGERS ALSO GOT INVOLVED
The argument between the Turkish and Arab passengers escalated further when other passengers also got involved. Due to the loud noise made by the individuals, voices rose inside the metro, and the argument spilled out of the metro. A person who shouted "This is Turkey, you will speak Turkish" and disturbed those around him was removed from the metro by the reactions of other passengers. Those moments were recorded by another citizen's mobile phone camera.
