US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a new step by the US Mint as part of the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of American independence in a statement on his social media account.
TRUMP WILL APPEAR ON THE OBVERSE
Bessent reported that minting of a new one-dollar gold coin featuring President Donald Trump's portrait will begin in honor of the 250th anniversary of the country's independence.
Stating that the gold coin is designed to honor the legacy of freedom and to be a lasting symbol of patriotism, Bessent expressed that this coin featuring Trump celebrates the strength of American values and the promise of a nation dedicated to protecting freedom for all.
DESIGN DETAILS ALSO REVEALED
The image shared by Bessent with the public also included the design details of the new coin to be minted. On the obverse of the gold coin, along with Trump's portrait, are the dates '1776 - 2026', symbolizing the beginning and the 250th anniversary of independence, and the phrases 'Liberty' and 'In God We Trust'. On the reverse of the coin are the traditional American eagle motif, the number '250', and the inscription 'One Dollar'.
