A group of 10 people attacked the police team all at once.

The police team on patrol in Esenler began to investigate after hearing gunfire in the street. At that moment, a large group on the street fled upon seeing the police. Umut Ş. (25), who remained at the scene, was detained after resisting the team. While the police team was putting the suspect into the vehicle, a large group attacked the police. After the scuffle, the police team fired into the air to disperse the crowd. H.Y. (17), who attempted to stop the police vehicle by kicking it while the suspect was being taken away, was also detained. Two suspects who were detained during the incident were taken to the police station.

DETAINED WHEN CAUGHT WITH A WEAPON

The incident occurred around 00:15 at night in Esenler. The patrol team in the area went towards the sound of a single gunshot. Upon seeing the police team, those in the large group on the street ran away into the side streets. The police team, which started working to catch the fleeing individuals, stopped Umut Ş., whom they suspected, and asked him to show his ID. At that moment, the suspect Umut Ş. reacted to the team by saying, "Did you put on that uniform and become God? Are we terrorists?" During the checks, the police team saw a gun lying on the ground behind Umut. The teams examining the gun determined that the magazine was empty. While the suspect Umut Ş. claimed he had no knowledge of the weapon, he continued to resist by using foul language towards the team. Consequently, the police team detained Umut.

A GROUP OF TEN ATTACKED THE POLICE

While the suspect was being handcuffed, a group of about ten people coming from the side streets attacked the police in an attempt to rescue Umut Ş. During the scuffle, the suspect Umut Ş. punched one police officer and kicked another. The outnumbered police team first sprayed pepper spray at the attacking suspects and then fired into the air. After the attacking group dispersed, the suspect Umut Ş. was handcuffed. During the search of the suspect, a 10-centimeter-long knife was found in the pocket of his jacket.

TRIED TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY KICKING IT

While the suspect was being taken to the police station in the team vehicle, one person attempted to stop the police vehicle by throwing a water bottle and kicking it. The team also detained the suspect named Hacı Y., who attacked the police vehicle, and took two suspects to the police station. During the examination conducted there, it was revealed that Umut Ş. was wanted for the crime of 'possessing a firearm and a large number of bullets.' Since H.Y. was under 18, he was handed over to the Esenler Child Bureau. While the interrogation of the suspect Umut Ş. continued, the police teams began working to capture the attackers who fled the scene.
