The congress delegates Hatip Karaarslan and Yılmaz Özkanat filed a lawsuit for the annulment of the CHP's 21st Extraordinary Congress held on April 6. In the petition submitted to the Ankara 41st Civil Court of First Instance, the delegates requested the annulment of the congress. The petition included the statements, "Our aim is to bring our party back to the legal ground, to be the voice of legitimacy and justice, and to represent the CHP in a manner befitting its history and founders." It was also requested that the lawsuit regarding the annulment of the 38th Ordinary Congress, scheduled for November 4-5, 2023, be combined with this case.

WHAT HAPPENED?

CHP held the 21st Extraordinary Congress in Ankara on April 6, in line with its decision to "prevent the appointment of a trustee to the party." Özgür Özel, who entered the election as the sole candidate due to the withdrawal of Antalya Muratpaşa Mayor Ümit Uysal and the failure of former MP Berhan Şimşek to submit his application on time, was re-elected as the CHP Chairman by receiving all of the valid 1,171 votes. The congress, where the entire 52-person key list published by Özgür Özel before the elections received approval from the delegates, became a subject of legal dispute.
