Merve Sağın, who is on trial for allegedly killing her 4-year-old child and throwing the body in the trash, was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Boğazlıyan district of Yozgat. During the hearing, the defendant requested the discovery of her child's body.
In the trial held at the Boğazlıyan Heavy Penal Court, the detained defendant Merve Sağın (35) connected via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS). The attorneys of the parties and the attorney from the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services were present in the courtroom.
SHE REQUESTED THE FINDING OF HER CHILD'S BODY
The prosecutor, in his opinion on the merits, requested the defendant to be punished for the crime of "deliberately killing a relative in the direct line of descent." The defendant, who was asked for her final words by the presiding judge, stated that she was reiterating her previous statement and requested the finding of her child's body.
LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR THE MOTHER
The court panel sentenced the defendant Sağın to life imprisonment for the crime of "deliberately killing a relative in the direct line of descent."
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
Merve Sağın, who lives in the Boğazlıyan district, reported the disappearance of her 4-year-old son E.Ç, born from her ex-husband, to the police on January 11, 2025. In her statement at the police station, the mother, who gave contradictory statements, confessed during her interrogation that she had strangled her son in July 2024 and thrown him into the district's landfill.
The woman, who was taken into custody, was arrested on January 14, 2025, and on the same day, police and gendarmerie teams began searching the landfill.
