Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that, after Ordu-Giresun and Rize-Artvin, Turkey's third airport to be built on the sea will be constructed in Trabzon. In the project, where site setup works have begun, 100 million tons of fill will be placed in the sea, and a 3,000-meter runway and a terminal with an annual capacity of 10 million passengers will be built.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made statements regarding the work carried out in the Trabzon New Airport Project. Stating that Turkey's third airport to be built on the sea will be realized in Trabzon, Minister Uraloğlu announced that site setup work has begun within the scope of the new airport's infrastructure. Stating that they will build a new airport to meet Trabzon's increasing passenger and cargo traffic, Uraloğlu said, “The single runway, 2,640 meters long, and the facilities of our existing airport remain insufficient to meet the needs of increasing passenger and cargo traffic. Therefore, we will provide Trabzon with a new airport with higher capacity, modern and compliant with international standards.”
100 MILLION TONS OF FILL INTO THE SEA
Stating that Trabzon New Airport will be built by filling over the sea, Minister Uraloğlu said, “Following the Ordu-Giresun and Rize-Artvin airports, we will realize Turkey's third airport built on the sea in Trabzon. For the infrastructure of our new airport, we will place 100 million tons of fill into the sea. In order to protect the fill area from sea effects, we will build a protective breakwater 6,000 meters long. In this way, we will create the necessary infrastructure for the runway, taxiway and apron areas of our new airport.”
3,000-METER RUNWAY AND TAXIWAY
Also providing information on the technical features of the new airport, Minister Uraloğlu said, “At our new airport, we will build a runway 3,000 meters long and 45 meters wide. Parallel to our runway, we will also create a taxiway 3,000 meters long and 45 meters wide. In addition, we will build an apron 1,370 meters long and 155 meters wide, as well as a safety apron 400 meters long and 120 meters wide.”
Uraloğlu noted that with the new runway and apron areas they will strengthen Trabzon's air transport infrastructure and ensure that passenger and cargo transport operations are carried out more safely and without interruption.
10 MILLION PASSENGER CAPACITY PER YEAR
Also making statements regarding the project's superstructure facilities, Minister Uraloğlu reported that a terminal building with an annual capacity of 10 million passengers will be built at the new airport. Uraloğlu said, “We will build a new terminal building of 110,000 square meters. In addition, we will also realize a technical block, air traffic control tower and support buildings totaling 65,000 square meters. With our new airport, we will offer a long-term solution to Trabzon's increasing air transport need.”
