With the regulation amendment published in the Official Gazette, a new era has begun in installment purchases. The Ministry of Trade has been authorized to determine installment periods and introduce additional restrictions in the purchase of goods and services other than housing sales. Installment payment of debt for a fee or deferral of payment has also been included in the scope of the regulation. The decisions to be taken by the Ministry will be announced on its website.

The "Regulation Amending the Regulation on Principles and Rules to Be Applied in Retail Trade" prepared by the Ministry of Trade was published in the Official Gazette.

With the new regulation, the Ministry's powers regarding installment sales of goods and services other than housing were redefined. Accordingly, the Ministry of Trade will be able to determine the periods to be applied in installment sales and introduce additional restrictions when it deems necessary.

THE MINISTRY WILL BE ABLE TO DETERMINE INSTALLMENT PERIODS

According to the news reported by NTV, within the scope of the regulation amendment, the Ministry will have the authority to decide on installment periods for the purchase of goods and services other than housing sales.

This authority will also cover transactions carried out in the form of installment of the debt or deferral of payment for a certain fee after the sale of goods or services.

In addition, installment sales made with or without the issuance of negotiable instruments will also fall within the scope of the regulation.

ADDITIONAL RESTRICTIONS MAY BE INTRODUCED

With the new regulation, the Ministry of Trade will not only determine installment periods but may also impose additional restrictions on such sales.

Thus, the way has been opened for taking new decisions regarding the conditions to be applied in installment sales of goods and services other than housing.

DECISIONS WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON THE WEBSITE

With the regulation amendment, the third, fourth and fifth paragraphs of the relevant article of the existing regulation were repealed.

It was stipulated that the decisions to be taken by the Ministry under its new powers shall be announced on its official website and sent to higher professional organizations.

The regulation does not mean that the number of installments has changed immediately. While the new regulation grants the Ministry the authority to determine installment periods and introduce additional restrictions, the specific periods and restrictions to be applied may be announced separately.
