A new era in insurance and comprehensive coverage! The conditions for total loss have changed.

A new regulation concerning vehicle insurance and comprehensive coverage that affects all vehicle owners has come into effect. With the regulation that will be in force as of July 1, 2025, for a vehicle that has sustained severe damage during an accident to be classified as a "total loss," the repair costs must exceed 60% of the vehicle's value.

In the event of vehicles being involved in an accident, significant changes have been made today regarding traffic insurance and comprehensive insurance that cover the damages incurred. Previously, vehicles involved in a major accident were declared a total loss, and the amounts were paid to the drivers by insurance companies. From now on, it will be more difficult to declare damaged vehicles as a total loss.

A 60% THRESHOLD HAS BEEN SET FOR DECLARING A TOTAL LOSS

According to the rule that will be effective after July 1, 2025, repairs will be made for damages below 60% of the market value of the vehicle due to an accident, and it will not be considered a total loss. The extent of the damage will be assessed by an expert.

HOW WILL TOTAL AND HEAVY DAMAGE BE CALCULATED?

If the repair cost of the vehicle involved in the accident exceeds the value of the vehicle including VAT, the vehicle will be considered a total loss. In this case, after the vehicle's scrap registration certificate is issued, the insurance company will pay compensation to the owner. If the repair cost of the damaged vehicle exceeds 60% of the market value, it will be considered heavily damaged. If it does not exceed 60% and is below that, the vehicle will not be declared a total loss, and it will be repaired and returned to traffic.

THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS

If certain parts are damaged, even if the damage rate is below 60%, the vehicle will be considered a total loss, and a heavy damage record will be processed.

If the floor along with the right-left side sills, right-left front and rear chassis arms, roof sheet, front dashboard sheet, right-left center pillar, roof sheet front-rear cross member, electric vehicle battery and main energy line in electric vehicles, airbags, and driver-passenger safety systems, main electrical installation and electronic system parts, and the driver's cabin of trucks and tractors are damaged, the vehicle will be considered heavily damaged.

EXPERTS WILL DECIDE

All decisions regarding the damage status of vehicles will be made by experts. Heavy or total damage situations will be reported, and neither the insurance company nor the vehicle owner will be able to intervene in this situation.
