In the Güçlükonak district of Şırnak, a record penalty was imposed on a poacher who shot a protected wild goat with a shotgun, which gendarmerie teams found wounded in a vehicle. As compensation for the violations and damage caused to nature, the individual was fined a total of 1,276,278 Turkish lira in administrative fines and compensation.

In the Güçlükonak district of Şırnak, a poacher who shot and injured a protected mountain goat with a hunting rifle faced a severe penalty. While the wild goat, found wounded in a vehicle by gendarmerie teams, was taken into treatment, the identified individual was subjected to a total administrative fine and compensation of 1,276,278 Turkish Lira.

 The incident occurred in the rural area of Akdizgin village, affiliated with the Güçlükonak district. Teams from the Akdizgin Gendarmerie Station Command received a report that a wild goat, which is under protection and at risk of extinction, was being illegally hunted in the region. Swiftly taking action, the security forces found the wounded wild goat writhing in pain during an operation on a suspicious vehicle.

GENDARMERIE AND NATURE CONSERVATION TEAMS MOBILIZED

After finding the injured animal in the vehicle, the situation was immediately reported to the Şırnak Provincial Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks (DKMP) teams. An initial examination by a veterinarian at the scene determined that the unfortunate wild goat had been shot in its left hind leg with a hunting rifle. The goat, receiving first aid at the scene, was transferred to the DKMP Rehabilitation Center for completion of treatment and eventual release back into its natural habitat.

POACHER'S VIOLATIONS UNCOVERED AS A CHAIN

Teams identifying the person who shot the wild goat encountered a full chain of violations during their investigation. The suspect was fined 26,278 Turkish Lira for crimes including hunting a protected wild animal, hunting outside the hunting season (during the banned season), engaging in illegal hunting without a hunting license, and using a smoothbore hunting rifle without a magazine limited to two rounds.

The imposed administrative fine was not the end. Considering the significant damage caused to protected wildlife and biodiversity, a decision was also made for a compensation fine of 1.25 million Turkish Lira against the suspect. Thus, the total penalty imposed on the poacher reached a record level of 1,276,278 Turkish Lira.

INSPECTIONS TO CONTINUE UNINTERRUPTEDLY

Officials from the Şırnak Nature Conservation and National Parks Provincial Directorate emphasized that poaching would never be tolerated in order to protect the ecological balance and endangered species in the region. Stating that inspections will continue resolutely, authorities called on all citizens to be sensitive and promptly report any illegal activities against wildlife to security forces or DKMP teams.
