A 28-year-old man who was arrested for fraud was reportedly found dead in his cell shortly after being diagnosed with AIDS while being held in Silivri Prison. His mother stated, "He had no health issues when he entered the prison. When I visited him, he had dropped to 45 kilograms." The prosecutor's office has launched an investigation, deeming the death suspicious.

In September 2023, 28-year-old Yunus Çakır, who was arrested for the crime of "fraud through information technology," was sent to Marmara Prison (formerly known as Silivri Prison). After spending a year and a half in prison, Çakır's health deteriorated in October 2024. His mother, Döne Söyler, reported the outbreak claim to CİMER on October 29, 2024, after her son said, "There is a tuberculosis outbreak here."

HIS LAWYER LEARNED HE HAD AIDS FROM E-NABIZ

According to Flash News, Yunus Çakır was quarantined after a while. Allegedly, his lawyer learned that Çakır was HIV positive, meaning he had AIDS, through the E-Nabız system. When the lawyer explained the situation to the family, the detained Çakır was transferred to the chest diseases department.

DIED SHORTLY AFTER AIDS DIAGNOSIS

Detained Yunus Çakır was found dead in his cell on December 3, 2024, three months after being diagnosed with AIDS. His mother, Döne Söyler, said, "When he left here, my son had no health issues. He was perfectly normal. When I went for a visit, I saw that he had lost a lot of weight. He had dropped to 45 kilograms at his lowest. A week before he died, he called me and asked for money. I sent him the money. He never received that money."

AN INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN INITIATED

According to allegations, Yunus Çakır's death certificate stated "non-communicable disease" as the cause of death. Although it was recorded as "cause of death unknown," the prosecutor's office found Çakır's death suspicious and initiated an investigation.
