A social media influencer mother is being investigated for child abuse.

The American TikTok phenomenon Hannah Hiatt is under investigation following numerous complaints after sharing a series of videos. The Ogden Police Department confirmed that an active investigation is underway regarding the influencer known by the username @hannah_bhiatt.

The trigger for the investigation was a video featuring Hiatt's son, James. In the footage, the child is seen flinching momentarily and covering his face as his father approaches. Following the video, multiple reports were made to Child Protective Services and the police.

After deleting the controversial video, Hiatt defended her husband in a statement released on November 29: "My husband is the sweetest, kindest, and most loving father in the world. What you see in the video is just a game. They constantly scare each other as a joke. My husband thinks only of our children and the well-being of our family from the moment he wakes up in the morning until he goes to bed at night."

Hiatt also reacted strongly to those comparing her to Ruby Franke, a YouTube influencer convicted of child abuse: "It’s ridiculous to compare me to Ruby Franke. Nowadays, people will do anything to become famous on TikTok, not hesitating to harm others. My children are happy and healthy, they are well-fed, and they are constantly playing. This is a sign that everything is fine."

The influencer mother had previously sparked controversy as well. After spending her first day alone with her two children post-birth, a video showing 17 dirty diapers in her home went viral and drew criticism. Hiatt stated about that video, "I just wanted to capture a funny moment; I didn’t think it would attract this much attention."

A police spokesperson confirmed that a detective has been assigned to the investigation but refrained from providing detailed information about the process.
