According to reports in the US press, the Pentagon has raised the counterintelligence threat level against Israel to the highest level, "critical." The reports state that Israel has been attempting to gather information about US policy and negotiations regarding Iran, while the White House and the Israeli administration have announced that these reports are not true.

According to NBC News, three unnamed former U.S. officials claimed that the Pentagon is increasingly concerned about Israel's heightened espionage activities against the United States.

The officials alleged that the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), under the U.S. Department of Defense, has prepared a new counterintelligence threat assessment due to the tensions along the U.S.-Israel-Iran line and the rising strain in relations between Washington and Tel Aviv.

ALLEGATION: THREAT LEVEL RAISED TO "CRITICAL"

The report claimed that the DIA, through an internal message, raised its counterintelligence threat assessment regarding Israel to the highest level, "critical."

According to the allegation, concerns within the Pentagon are based on assessments that Israel is attempting to monitor high-ranking American officials to obtain information about U.S. internal discussions and decision-making processes related to wars.

The officials argued that Israel's human intelligence and technical intelligence collection capabilities have also been assessed by the DIA as "critical."

ALLEGATION: IRAN NEGOTIATIONS IN FOCUS

According to The New York Times report, Israel's alleged intelligence activities are particularly concentrated on U.S. Iran policy and ongoing negotiations.

The report claimed that U.S. President Donald Trump's Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, Pentagon Under Secretary for Defense Policy, Elbridge Colby, and some aides are at the center of Israel's intelligence activities.

A former U.S. official who worked on Israel issues stated that some high-ranking American officials using personal phones and traveling on private jets pose a security risk.

WHITE HOUSE AND ISRAEL DENY ALLEGATIONS

The White House, in a statement regarding the reports, firmly denied the allegations. The statement said, "This entire report is baseless."

The Pentagon declined to comment on the matter, while a spokesperson for the Israeli Embassy in Washington argued that the accusations of Israel spying on the U.S. are "completely baseless."
