On November 27, armed opposition groups led by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) advanced to the capital, Damascus, in just 12 days. After the opposition entered Damascus, Bashar al-Assad fled to Russia. HE HAD TWO PEOPLE WITH HIM DURING HIS FLIGHT TO RUSSIANew details continue to emerge following Assad's escape. According to the London-based Al Majalla, Assad had two people with him when he fled to Russia. It is claimed that during Assad's journey to Russia, he was accompanied by Presidential Affairs Minister Mansur Azzam and head of his security detail, Brigadier General Muhsin Muhammad. It was noted that Assad did not flee with his family, as his wife and children were already abroad at that time. WHY DID ASSAD REMAIN SILENT FOR A WEEK?It has also been suggested that the reason Assad remained silent for a week after his escape was that he was waiting for his aides, who were left behind, to regain access to their social media accounts and reach the coastal areas of Syria, neighboring countries, or Moscow. In his first statement after fleeing the country, Assad claimed that he took refuge in a Russian base during the clashes and was taken out of Syria under instructions from Moscow.
