In Düzce, farmer Hüseyin Yıldız was fined 4,500 lira for illegally crossing the Northern Marmara Highway with his tractor. Despite Yıldız's objection that he never left the village, the penalty was not canceled, and a lien was placed on his bank accounts. Unable to access subsidies due to the freeze, Yıldız said he suffered losses during the planting season.

Hüseyin Yıldız, a farmer in Düzce, faced a "violation pass" penalty even though he said his tractor never went on the highway. Despite his objections, the penalty was not canceled, and his bank accounts were seized.

"THIS TRACTOR CANNOT GO ON THE HIGHWAY"

Yıldız, who lives in Düzköy connected to the center, was fined 4,500 lira for his tractor with license plate 81 ABN 726 allegedly passing through the Northern Marmara Highway in 2023. Stating that his tractor goes at most 25 kilometers per hour and never leaves the village, Yıldız said, "I don't understand how this vehicle was seen on the highway. It's impossible for it to go out anyway."

"WE WILL FIX IT" THEY SAID, THEN SEIZURE CAME

Yıldız, stating that in meetings with authorities, they said the system error was noticed but the penalty was still not canceled, expressed that his bank accounts were seized in the meantime and he suffered great hardship.

BECAME UNABLE TO PLOW HIS FIELD

Yıldız, who said he could not receive agricultural support due to the freeze on his accounts, described his distress by saying, "I cannot use the fuel and fertilizer support. It's planting time, but our hands are tied."
