Dr. Furkan Dölek, who has been detained in the United States since August 27, 2025, has been released. Dölek regained his freedom after posting a $50,000 bail and went to Chicago to await trial without detention. He is the first scientist in the world to solve the problem of "triple exponential decay harmonization," which is described as one of the most challenging problems in experimental nuclear physics. After the U.S. government detected radioactive risks in his laboratory, he announced this situation and was subsequently fired and had his visa revoked.

A Turkish scientist, Furkan Dölek, who was detained in the United States, has been released on a $50,000 bail. The good news was announced by Attorney Seyit Şahin, the President of the Turkish-American National Steering Committee (TASC). Şahin stated that the Turkish scientist was released to await trial without detention after posting the bail, and that Dölek arrived in Chicago with his lawyer after being released from the prison in El Paso, Texas, located near the Mexican border.

HE WILL LIVE IN CHICAGO DURING THE TRIAL

In a joint statement made by Attorney Michael Gökhan Kıran and Attorney Seyit Şahin, who voluntarily followed the case on behalf of TASC, it was stated, "It is our responsibility to defend the rights of the Turkish-American community. Dr. Furkan Dölek's regaining his freedom is a natural consequence of this responsibility."

With the support of the Turkish-American community led by TASC, the bail amount for Dölek was quickly raised, and he will reside in Chicago during the ongoing process of his trial without detention.

NO NEWS FOR MONTHS

Furkan Dölek, a Turkish scientist living in the United States, identified radioactive risks threatening the health of researchers at Fermilab, a laboratory under the U.S. Department of Energy, in March 2024, shared this information with U.S. officials, and announced it on social media. Following this announcement, Dölek was fired in April 2024, and his visa was revoked.

Dölek, who filed a lawsuit against the cancellation of his visa granted for academic research, had to live in the country without a visa for the last four months as his legal efforts yielded no results, and he initiated a protest march towards Canada.

Dölek, who has worked at important institutions such as CERN, Fermilab, and Virginia Tech, had his posts regarding the process trending on social media.

After August 27, no news was received from Dölek, who protested this situation through his social media accounts.

As a result of the efforts of Turkey's Consulate General in New York, it was revealed on September 4 that Dölek was in the New York Buffalo Federal Detention Center.

WHO IS DR. FURKAN DÖLEK?

Dr. Furkan Dölek, who completed his master's and doctorate in physics, has been conducting research on particle physics and advanced materials at a university in the United States in recent years.

In 2020, Dr. Dölek became the first scientist in the world to solve the "triple exponential decay harmony" problem, described by William R. Leo as "one of the most difficult problems in experimental nuclear physics."

With published articles in international scientific journals, Dölek is seen as one of Turkey's leading physicists despite his young age.
