The financial dispute between Cardiff City and FC Nantes, which began after the plane crash of Argentine forward Emiliano Sala in 2019, has been concluded by the court. While the Welsh club's massive compensation claim was rejected, a ruling was made for payment to the other party.

The compensation claim of approximately 120 million Euros, which Cardiff City, a team in the English Football League Championship, demanded from the French Ligue 1 team Nantes following the death of Argentine player Emiliano Sala in 2019, has been rejected.

COMPENSATION OF MORE THAN 120 MILLION EUROS

Cardiff City was claiming more than 120 million Euros in compensation for loss of income and other damages, based on the belief that Sala could have kept the club in the Premier League.

CARDIFF'S COMPENSATION CLAIM REJECTED

In the ruling announced today, it was determined that Nantes was not at fault in the plane crash that led to the death of the 28-year-old Argentine footballer. The court rejected Cardiff City's compensation claim of approximately 120 million Euros.

CARDIFF WILL PAY THE OPPOSING PARTY

Additionally, it was ruled that the Welsh representative must pay Nantes approximately 480,000 Euros (400,000 pounds) in legal costs and moral damages. Thus, the legal process that has lasted for 7 years has officially come to an end.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Sala lost his life on January 21, 2019, when the private plane he boarded to go to his new club playing in the Premier League crashed over the English Channel after departing from France.
