The Syrian Foreign Minister, Assad Hasan Sheybani, reacted very strongly to Israel. He stated that Israel's airstrikes violate his country's sovereignty, saying, "The excuse of foreign-backed armed groups used to justify such attacks has now lost its validity."
The Syrian Foreign Minister, Esad Hasan Sheybani, stated that Israel's airstrikes violate his country's sovereignty, saying, "The excuse of armed groups supported from abroad used to justify such attacks has now lost its validity." A public session regarding the Israel-Palestine issue was held at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
"IT VIOLATES OUR SOVEREIGNTY"
In his speech here, Foreign Minister Sheybani said that his country is "not isolated from its surroundings, but an integral part of the regional fabric." He emphasized that the stability and security of his country cannot be separated from the stability and security of its neighbors, arguing that violence and turmoil in one country in the region would "spread instability and create waves of extremism" across borders.
Pointing out that Syria is facing a "violation of its sovereignty and a real threat" due to Israel's airstrikes, Sheybani stated, "The excuse of armed groups supported from abroad used to justify such attacks has now lost its validity."
"UNDER OCCUPATION"
Minister Sheybani noted that these attacks are forcing people to be displaced and to abandon their villages along the southern borders, stating that the "expansionist approach" would lead to instability and violence in the region.
Sheybani said, "We remind this council that for 50 years, even after the illegal annexation, the Golan continues to be under occupation, in clear violation of the principles of the UN Charter." He pointed out that the attacks clearly violate council resolutions and destroy Syria's civilian infrastructure, stating, "All the misleading narratives from the Israeli side have failed. The Syrian people are concerned as a result of the attacks and feel threatened by Israel."
SYRIA'S RECOVERY PROCESS
Calling on the council to contribute to ensuring that Syrians can return to their country "dignified, voluntarily, and safely" and to lift sanctions against his country, Sheybani stated:
"Real peace cannot be built behind walls and cannot be protected within closed borders. Our security is not separate from the security of our neighbors, and no country can guarantee the security of its own people while threatening the sovereignty of others. There is a real opportunity to support Syria's recovery and the stability of the region as a whole. Syrians will not return to an environment suffocated by rubble or sanctions."
CALL FOR CEASEFIRE
Stating that Syria stands by the Palestinian people, Sheybani expressed that Gaza is under constant airstrikes and a suffocating blockade, with health workers and journalists being deliberately targeted, and the people "still suffering from the ruthless war." He conveyed that these violations not only lead to humanitarian tragedy but also cause a "cycle of instability" throughout the region, stating, "(The council) From this platform, we want to urgently call for a ceasefire to protect civilians and ensure unhindered access and delivery of humanitarian aid."
