It has been revealed that Fatma Akyüz, who was taken to the hospital due to illness in the Suruç district of Şanlıurfa, has lived without an identity for 70 years. Faruk Akyüz, who wants an identity document to be issued for his wife, said, "My wife doesn't have a population record, she is 70 years old. I have 4 children, and their population records have also been registered under my brother's name."

Seventy-year-old Fatma Akyüz, living in the Aligör neighborhood of the Suruç district in Şanlıurfa, was taken to the hospital by her neighbors due to illness. When her neighbors tried to register her at the hospital, they learned that the woman did not have her identity card with her. After contacting her husband, 75-year-old Faruk Akyüz, the neighbors asked him to bring her identity card to the hospital. When her husband Faruk Akyüz said, "She has never had an identity," the neighborhood head, Mehmet Salih Alakuş, was informed.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD HEAD WAS GREATLY SURPRISED

When the neighborhood head visited the woman's home, he was greatly surprised to learn that she had lived without an identity for 70 years. It was revealed that 75-year-old Faruk Akyüz, who is officially registered as single, and his 70-year-old wife Fatma Akyüz, who lives without an identity, have 4 children, and they are registered under other people's names in the population records. Faruk Akyüz, who takes care of his sick wife in a one-room house, wants to register her with the Population Directorate before he dies. He is seeking help from the authorities for this.

"WE DID NOT KNOW SHE DID NOT HAVE AN IDENTITY"

Neighborhood head Mehmet Salih Alakuş, who went to the family's home, said, "Until now, we did not know whether this citizen had an identity or not. We learned that the citizen did not have an identity after she fell ill. We first went to the population office to get her an identity, but unfortunately, the population office director told us, 'This citizen's brother or sister should come and apply.' So, since it is officially running this way right now, the director cannot do anything. We considered filing a lawsuit. Since we do not know how long the process will take when we file a lawsuit, we are currently stuck. Our citizen is a victim. We, as the residents of Aligör, are helping the citizen. We do not know what to do now; we want the state to solve this problem. There is no identity, but there is a person. For now, we have only applied to the population directorate; we have not made any applications to the district governor's office or the governor's office because we just learned that the citizen does not have an identity. We have an appointment with the district governor in a few days. We will present the situation to him. The family has 4 children. None of the children can take care of the citizen because they are all agricultural workers and cannot come here. The wife also has six brothers, and they are agricultural workers too. Aside from being agricultural workers, they do not even have literacy. They do not know what path to take. Until now, no one has guided them. The children are registered under their uncle's name. Our uncle is also registered as single in the population records. When we tell the district governor about the victim citizen in Aligör, he reaches out, but since the current citizen does not have an identity, we need to prove to the district governor that such a person exists," he said.

"WE HAVE NO ONE"

Faruk Akyüz, who wants an identity to be issued for his wife, said, "I got married; my wife's population record does not exist, she is 70 years old. We want an identity from the state. If my wife has an identity, we can take her to the state hospital. We are devastated. I have 4 children, and their population records have been issued under my brother's name. I am 75 years old; my wife has 6 siblings, and they have not issued theirs either. It would be great if the state could issue my wife's population record. We cannot go to the doctor; it would be very good if we had an identity card now. I take care of my wife. I lift her up, cook, and give her food. I am also alone because I have no siblings or brothers; they have all died," he said.
