In the accident that occurred at the Istanbul Eurasia Tunnel, a car crashed into a fire extinguisher panel. The impact caused the fire extinguishing system to burst, flooding the tunnel. The Istanbul Governorate warned citizens, announcing that the tunnel was temporarily closed and that alternative routes should be used.
A traffic accident occurred in the morning hours in the Eurasia Tunnel, which connects the two sides of the Bosphorus in Istanbul, on the European direction. A car, which went out of control for an unknown reason, climbed onto the sidewalk and crashed into the tunnel wall.

Following the accident, water flowed from the fire extinguishing unit at the point where the vehicle crashed. In the images, water was seen spreading across the tunnel floor.

The tunnel, which was closed due to safety risks, was reopened after the work.

The Istanbul Governor's Office announced that the accident occurred on Monday, June 8, 2026, around 08:00. The statement indicated that the private car hit the fire panel belonging to the fire department.
The statement from the Istanbul Governor's Office on the matter is as follows:
"On Monday, at around 08:00, a traffic accident occurred in the Eurasia Tunnel when a private car hit the fire panel belonging to the fire department.
Due to the burst faucet, water from the extinguishing system flowed into the tunnel. After the incident, the Eurasia Tunnel was closed to vehicle passage.
The water flowing into the tunnel has no connection with seawater, and efforts to resolve the issue continue.
Our citizens who will use the Eurasia Tunnel are being directed to alternative routes."
