On January 16, around 08:00, an accident occurred on Bağdat Avenue in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul, where a pediatrician, M.K. (50), hit Gizem Demirci (22) as she was crossing the road after leaving her home for work. The young girl, who was seriously injured, lost her life after a two-day struggle in intensive care at the hospital. RELEASED UNDER JUDICIAL CONTROLAfter the accident, M.K. was detained and released by the court under judicial control. Meanwhile, the moment of the accident was captured by security cameras. BURIEDThe funeral of Gizem Demirci, who lost her life, was held today at the Boğaziçi Mosque in Gülsuyu Neighborhood, following the noon prayer, and she was buried at Başıbüyük Cemetery. The young girl's family and relatives were in tears at the funeral. "HE 'ACCEPTS' HE WAS SPEEDING"Gizem Demirci's brother-in-law, Faruk Kandemir, stated, "Gizem left home at 07:00 as usual to go to work. Previously, when she spoke with her sister, she mentioned that the avenue was very busy and that cars were coming very fast. There are images in the camera recordings. She looked to her left, saw it was clear, and started to cross the road quickly. But the approaching vehicle was definitely very fast. The driver admits he was speeding; he acknowledges it. He didn't see Gizem at all. I don't believe he was looking at the road. I think he was playing with his phone. In fact, if we check the EDS records, it will show that he had his phone in hand while driving in that direction," he said. "WHILE WE WERE FIGHTING FOR LIFE, THEY DIDN'T EVEN KEEP HIM IN CUSTODY"Kandemir said, "What bothers us the most is that while we were fighting for life, they didn't even keep the person in custody for 5 hours. How is this possible? A 22-year-old young girl loses her life, and they release this guy. I can't make sense of this. He admits he was speeding. There are recordings; everything is there. His mother, father, and sisters are all very upset. She was going to be an aunt in 2 months. We will fight as much as we can. As a family, we want him to receive punishment quickly," he stated.
