It has been reported that four more people died yesterday due to the African-sourced extreme heatwave continuing in Italy. The extreme temperatures, which have been ongoing for 10 days and exceeding seasonal norms, continue to cause casualties in the country.
According to news in the national press, two women aged 86 and 74 in the city of Genoa fainted due to the heat and died yesterday.
A worker in the town of Abano Terme near Padua and a migrant agricultural worker in the city of Mantua also lost their lives due to the heat. Thus, the number of deaths due to high temperatures in the country since last week has risen to at least 10.
RED ALERT ISSUED IN SOME REGIONS DUE TO EXTREME HEAT
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health declared a "red" alert for today and tomorrow due to extreme heat in 25 cities, including the capital Rome, as well as Ancona, Bari, Bologna, Bolzano, Brescia, Florence, Frosinone, Genoa, Latina, Milan, Perugia, Pescara, Rieti, Turin, Venice, Verona, Viterbo, Campobasso, Civitavecchia, Naples, Palermo, Cagliari, Catania, and Trieste.
On the other hand, while daytime temperature records were broken in some cities in the north of the country, heavy downpours in the evening hours caused floods and tree falls in some areas, negatively affecting life.
Meteorology experts stated in their press statements that the extreme heatwave will lose its effect starting tomorrow and that rainfall will arrive.
