A new strong wave of rainfall is coming to the Marmara Region, especially Istanbul, which was hit by floods and landslides. After the disaster in which the rainfall record of the last 84 years was broken, a new warning came from the Meteorology. Deputy Director General of Meteorology Yüksel Yağan, drawing particular attention to Saturday, announced that rainfall will intensify in Istanbul's northern districts such as Arnavutköy and Beykoz. In the region where the soil is saturated with water, citizens were warned against the new flood risk.

In Istanbul, the rainfall record of the last 84 years was broken the previous day, while floods and flash floods occurred at more than a thousand points across the city. In the disaster affecting Istanbul and its surroundings, 3 people lost their lives. In Istanbul, 5 people are missing, and in Kocaeli, 1 person is missing.

After the heavy rainfall subsides, the region is expected to come under the influence of a new rainy weather system coming over the Balkans. Deputy Director General of Meteorology Yüksel Yağan made important warnings regarding the rainfall that will be effective on Friday and Saturday.

RAINFALL WILL INTENSIFY IN THE NORTH OF THE EUROPEAN SIDE

Noting that the soil in Istanbul is saturated with water, Yağan said that the risk continues especially in low-lying areas, stream beds, and areas prone to water accumulation.

Yağan said, "We had already indicated this flood and flash flood in our meteorological early warning. In line with that, there are puddles in low-lying areas, stream beds, and areas suitable for water accumulation, with some areas being more affected. Therefore, this risk cannot be ignored. The soil is saturated. Currently, the rainfall in Istanbul has stopped. On the Anatolian side, we may see very light rainfall. These rainfalls will continue in this way until midnight."

Stating that the new rainfall wave will be effective from the first hours of Friday, Yağan said, "We estimate that the rainfall will start again in Istanbul from the first hours of Friday, picking up a southerly wind from the southern areas. We expect it to be locally strong especially in the northern parts of the city's European side. We have also issued a meteorological warning about this."

PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO SATURDAY

Stating that raising the yellow-code warning for Istanbul to orange code is not currently on their agenda, Yağan expressed that the rainfalls will show their effect spread over time.

Yağan commented, "Right now, we are talking about a yellow-code warning that is again spread over time and will show its effect over time. The warning we issued today starts tomorrow (Friday) at 09:00 in the morning and continues until 23:59 on Saturday."

WARNING FOR ARNAVUTKÖY AND BEYKOZ

Emphasizing that the rainfalls will be effective especially in the northern districts of Istanbul, Yağan drew attention to Arnavutköy and Beykoz.

Yağan said, "On Friday, we will see somewhat stronger rainfall in the northern parts of the city, especially the northern parts of the European side, due to these southerly winds. We estimate that the northern districts of the city such as Arnavutköy and Beykoz will be affected. This effect continues all the way to the coasts of Kırklareli and Tekirdağ. After Friday, from the first hours of Saturday, the rainfall will again intensify. We recommend that our citizens be a bit more careful on Saturday during the next 3-day period."

The General Directorate of Meteorology issued yellow and orange code warnings for 24 provinces due to the expected heavy downpour.
