WHEN HE DIDN'T RETURN HOME, HIS FAMILY FILED A MISSING PERSON REPORT Mehmet Karabıyık, who lived in the rural Tacir neighborhood of İznik, left his home on the morning of January 19, telling his relatives, "I am going to my girlfriend in Boyalıca neighborhood." His family, unable to reach Karabıyık by phone when he did not return home in the evening, reported the situation to the gendarmerie teams. After the family's missing person report, the gendarmerie teams initiated a search for Mehmet Karabıyık.
HE WAS BURNED AFTER BEING STABBED As a result of the team's work, the partially burned lifeless body of Mehmet Karabıyık was found in the forest near the rural Aydınlar neighborhood. Upon examination, it was determined that Karabıyık was first stabbed and then burned to death. The body of Karabıyık, who had knife marks on many parts of his body, was taken to the Bursa Forensic Medicine Institute morgue for an autopsy.
THE SUSPECT TURNED OUT TO BE A FRIEND The gendarmerie teams, who started working on the incident, examined Karabıyık's mobile phone calls and consulted eyewitnesses. The teams detained Ömer Öner, who was a friend of Karabıyık and was claimed to have psychological problems. Öner, who confessed to his crime and handed over the knife he had hidden at home after using it in the incident to the gendarmerie teams, was arrested and sent to prison.

Claiming to have psychological problems, Öner said, "I woke up in the morning with the feeling of wanting to kill someone. I deliberately took the knife with me and met with Mehmet, who was my high school friend. I went to the forest with him on his motorcycle and stabbed him here. He was lying motionless. Then I rode my motorcycle home, changed my bloody clothes, took the diesel in the barrel, and went to the forest to burn Mehmet."
HE CHANGED HIS STATEMENT AT THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE In Ömer Öner's statement at the prosecutor's office, it was learned that contrary to his statement at the gendarmerie, he said he killed Mehmet Karabıyık not because he "woke up with the feeling of wanting to kill someone in the morning," but because of his inappropriate proposals. Öner stated that he was disturbed by Karabıyık, who addressed him as "My love" and "My darling," and that he called him to talk. Öner said, "His approach disturbed me. On the day of the incident, I took the knife with me, called Mehmet, and said I wanted to meet. We met at the café in Aydınlar neighborhood. We rode his motorcycle to the scene. When I asked him why he called me 'my love' and 'my darling,' he made an inappropriate proposal. I attacked him with the knife I had with me. I don't know how many places I stabbed him during the struggle. My fingers were also cut. I moved Mehmet, who was lying on the ground, away so he wouldn't be seen from the road. Then I rode my motorcycle home, changed my clothes, and put the knife away. After that, I took the diesel at home, went to the scene, and burned him. I slept that night. The next day, I took care of my business and went to the psychiatrist for an examination. I did not tell the doctor that I committed murder. When I came to the neighborhood, the gendarmerie caught me. Although I said in my statement at the gendarmerie that I woke up with the feeling of wanting to kill someone in the morning and took the knife with me, this statement is more accurate."
"HE BECAME OBSESSED WITH MY CLIENT AND BLACKMAILED HIM" It was learned that the detained defendant's lawyer, Fatih Okuş, also stated in his defense at the prosecutor's office that his client had severe psychological disorders, was under the influence of medication, and committed the act under provocation, saying, "The deceased Mehmet has a perverse personality. He became obsessed with my client and blackmailed him. This situation has driven my client into deep depression. My client wanted to talk to Mehmet in this context and started his actions under provocation. We request that his actions be evaluated within the scope of self-defense," he said. The investigation is being conducted by the İznik Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
