WHAT HAPPENED?

While the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement reached between Hamas and Israel was expected to come into effect at 09:30 AM (TRT), the Tel Aviv administration announced that the ceasefire would not be implemented "until the names of the 3 hostages to be delivered are provided." Following Hamas's publication of the list of hostages to be released from Gaza today, Israel announced that the ceasefire began at 12:15 PM (TRT). In a statement made by Hamas, it was stated that "the occupiers are expected to deliver a list containing the names of 90 detainees, including women and children, to be released on the first day of the ceasefire shortly."

PRISONER EXCHANGE

According to the decision published after the Israeli government's cabinet meeting, it is expected that more than 1900 Palestinians, including 1167 Gazans detained after October 7, 2023, will be released in exchange for 33 Israeli hostages. The agreement includes a condition for the deportation of some Palestinian prisoners. Additionally, Israel will also release all women and children under the age of 19 who have been detained since October 7. For each Israeli hostage released, Israel will free 30 Palestinian prisoners, and for each soldier or security personnel, it will release 50 Palestinians. On the first day of the agreement, 3 will be released, on the 7th day, 4, and thereafter, three Israeli hostages will be released each week, with 14 Israeli hostages planned to be released in the last week. Negotiations for the second phase will begin on the 16th day of the first phase of the ceasefire. Statements from high-ranking officials in Israel, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, raise concerns that Israel may continue its intense attacks on Gaza after the 42-day first phase.
