In a post on her social media account, Hazal Aras expressed her sorrow over Akkuş's death. Aras stated that Akkuş's funeral would be held on Sunday, September 6, after the noon prayer, and extended her condolences to his family, relatives, loved ones, and the people of Ağrı.
In a statement made by the DEM Party, it was also expressed that Akkuş's death was met with deep sorrow.

HIS POLITICAL CAREER TOOK SHAPE IN AĞRI
Born in Ağrı in 1969, Memet Akkuş migrated to Istanbul after being released from prison in 1992. There, he took on duties in the Istanbul administration of DEHAP.
In 2015, Akkuş assumed the roles of Ağrı Provincial Executive and Provincial Chairmanship for the HDP. In the 2019 local elections, he became the HDP's candidate for Co-Mayor of Ağrı Municipality.
ELECTED CO-MAYOR OF THE MUNICIPALITY IN 2024
In the 2024 local elections, Akkuş became the DEM Party's candidate for Co-Mayor of Ağrı Municipality. Following the election, he began serving as Co-Mayor of Ağrı Municipality alongside Hazal Aras.
Akkuş, who was married and a father of 5 children, will be laid to rest, according to the statement, on Sunday, September 6, after the noon prayer.
