An agreement was reached between the AK Party and CHP ahead of the Historical Cities Union elections. AK Party's Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Memduh Büyükkılıç announced that meetings were held with Mansur Yavaş with the knowledge of the AK Party headquarters, and the lists were formed through consensus. In the election held in Ankara, Mansur Yavaş was re-elected as the President of the Historical Cities Union, while the new term's administration and council members were also determined.
The 1st Ordinary Union Assembly Meeting of the Historical Cities Union for 2026 was held at the Kocatepe Cultural Center in Ankara. During the two-day meeting, the union's activities over the past two years were evaluated, and the new term administration was determined.
COMPROMISE BETWEEN AK PARTY AND CHP
Before the election, a compromise was reached between AK Party Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Memduh Büyükkılıç and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş.
Memduh Büyükkılıç stated that necessary consultations were held with the knowledge of the AK Party Headquarters, saying, "Within the scope of the Historical Cities Union elections, necessary consultations were held with Mr. Mansur Yavaş, and our lists were formed with a culture of compromise. Hopefully, we will hold our general assembly in peace and continue our work to serve our cities."
MANSUR YAVAŞ RE-ELECTED AS PRESIDENT
In the election held on the second day of the meeting, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş was re-elected as the President of the Historical Cities Union. Mut Mayor Murat Orhan, Menteşe Mayor Gonca Köksal Aras, Bartın Mayor Muhammet Rıza Yalçınkaya, Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Memduh Büyükkılıç, Niğde Mayor Emrah Özdemir, Kars Mayor Ötüken Senger, and Sur Mayor Adnan Örhan were elected as union council members.
NEW MANAGEMENT ANNOUNCED
Geyve Mayor Selçuk Yıldız was appointed as the 1st Vice President of the Assembly, and Safranbolu Mayor Elif Köse was appointed as the 2nd Vice President.
For the clerk memberships, Sungurlu Mayor Muhsin Dere and Divriği Mayor Cihan Deniz Akbaş were elected as principal members, while Tosya Mayor Volkan Kavaklıgil and Tire Mayor Hayati Okuroğlu were appointed as substitute members. ANKARA Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş was re-elected as President of the Historical Cities Union.
