A female employee at the Kartal Municipality in Istanbul allegedly deceived her colleagues by claiming "overtime pay was deposited incorrectly" and drained their mobile banking accounts. The employee is accused of targeting workers who were unfamiliar with internet banking, reportedly gaining over 50 million TL through this method. The municipality administration announced that a disciplinary process has been initiated regarding the incident.
Kartal Municipality in Istanbul has come to the forefront with allegations of a major fraud and embezzlement scandal in its Cleaning Affairs Directorate. According to the claim, a female employee named S.K.Y., working in the directorate, targeted the workers she collaborated with and transferred money from their mobile banking accounts to her own account.
SAID “OVERTIME PAY WAS DEPOSITED BY MISTAKE”
According to the allegation, S.K.Y., who worked in the Cleaning Affairs Directorate and was responsible for arranging workers' overtime records, specifically chose workers with poor literacy skills and those unfamiliar with internet banking. The female employee allegedly called the workers by phone and panicked them by saying, “Overtime pay was mistakenly deposited into your account. You need to send the money back to the municipal account immediately, otherwise you will be fired.”
It is claimed that S.K.Y., who reportedly took the phones and mobile banking passwords of the workers who came to her in panic, transferred the money in the accounts to her own account.
ALLEGED FRAUD OF 50 MILLION TL
It is alleged that the woman victimized numerous municipal employees using the same method, gaining an illegal profit exceeding 50 million TL. Additionally, it is among the claims that S.K.Y. borrowed large amounts of money from some employees she became close with and had certain individuals take out loans.
STATEMENT FROM THE MUNICIPALITY
According to a report by Barış Savaş from Sabah; Kartal Municipality officials, in their statement regarding the incident, said that the employee under allegations claimed to have recently contracted cancer and requested that all her receivables from the municipality be paid.
Officials stated that they received information that the damages of the victimized workers were beginning to be compensated by the individual's family, and said, “There is a very serious crime allegation and misconduct. Our disciplinary board will convene and take necessary action thoroughly.”
It was learned that S.K.Y., who faces serious accusations, has not yet been reached.
