AK Party member Şamil Tayyar commented on the fire that broke out at the Grand Kartal Hotel in the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Resort, which resulted in the loss of 79 lives, stating, "This hotel is not within the boundaries of Bolu Municipality. The inspection of tourism-certified establishments falls under the authority of the Ministry of Tourism."
In the fire that broke out early yesterday morning at the Grand Kartal Hotel located in the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Resort, 79 of our citizens lost their lives. As part of the ongoing investigation into the disaster, 11 people, including Bolu Deputy Mayor Sedat Gülener, have been detained.
"THIS HOTEL IS NOT WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF BOLU MUNICIPALITY"
While discussions about negligence regarding the disaster continue, a striking statement came from AK Party member Şamil Tayyar. Speaking on a television program he attended, Tayyar made the following remarks:
"This hotel is not within the boundaries of Bolu Municipality. The provincial mayor operates within his own boundaries. The location of this hotel is in a village outside. That village is within the boundaries of the provincial special administration. The Bolu Mayor cannot even seal a grocery store there. He does not have such sealing authority.
"THE SUPERVISION OF TOURISM-REGISTERED ESTABLISHMENTS BELONGS TO THE MINISTRY"
However, if this were a metropolitan municipality, the Bolu Mayor could easily take action. The supervision of tourism-registered establishments belongs to the Ministry of Tourism. The Ministry of Tourism can exercise this authority through relevant units. For example, if there is a need for a fire inspection, it can request this from Bolu Municipality. Municipalities can only issue construction and building permits. Since this hotel is outside the municipal boundaries, the permit was issued by the provincial special administration."
