A dense wave of desert dust coming from Africa has affected Turkey. The meteorology department announced that temperatures will rise and mud rain is expected. AKOM issued a warning for heavy rain and mud rain in Istanbul. Experts especially recommend that those going outside this week wear masks.
The desert dust coming from the West African country of Mali will show its effects across Turkey throughout the week. The General Directorate of Meteorology has warned that during this period, when temperatures will rise, citizens, especially those who will be outdoors, should be cautious. The dust transport, which negatively affects air quality, will reduce visibility in many regions.
DUST DENSITY WILL INCREASE
Experts emphasized that the passage of desert dust could pose serious health risks. It is recommended that individuals with asthma and respiratory issues wear masks when going outside. It was stated that especially during the hours when the dust will be dense, one should avoid staying outdoors.
MUD WILL FALL
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) announced that the city will experience a cloudy sky and temperatures ranging from 18-23°C this week. According to AKOM's statement, "It is predicted that intermittent showers and thunderstorms may occur starting from Friday, with southwesterly winds bringing along African-origin desert dust, and the rainfall may be muddy."
