AKOM has published the weekly weather forecast report for Monday. While cold air of Siberian origin continues to affect most of Istanbul, it has been stated that snowfall will become more significant with the drop in temperatures, and that its intensity will increase starting from the night hours. Additionally, residents of Istanbul have been advised to be cautious in traffic and to avoid using their private vehicles unless absolutely necessary.

According to AKOM's forecasts, intermittent rain and occasional rain mixed with snow will be effective in various regions of Istanbul throughout the day. Especially in higher areas such as Silivri and Çatalca, snowfall has started to be effective since the morning hours. It is expected that the snowfall will increase its impact across the city from the evening hours.

WILL CONTINUE UNTIL WEDNESDAY

The cold air originating from Siberia continues to affect a large part of Istanbul. According to AKOM's weather forecast report, it is expected that temperatures will decrease by another 1-2 degrees starting from Tuesday, and especially short-term heavy snowfall is expected in the mornings and evenings until Wednesday. It is predicted that temperatures across the city will range between 0-5 degrees.

RESERVOIR FILLING RATES AT 55.91 PERCENT

AKOM stated that the strong and occasionally severe winds (15-45 km/h) blowing from the northern directions (Yıldız and Poyraz) will further decrease air temperatures. A warning was issued that the risk of frost and icing could increase as air temperatures drop to around 0 degrees at night and in the morning. The filling rate of the reservoirs in Istanbul was measured at 55.91 percent. With the expected rainfall throughout February, it is predicted that this rate could exceed 65%.

FROST WARNING

According to AKOM's assessment, the current temperatures are 1-2 degrees higher in terms of snow accumulation. Therefore, although a white cover may form during precipitation, melting occurs again after the precipitation. For this reason, a permanent snow cover does not form. AKOM emphasized that citizens should be cautious due to the snowfall and icing that may occur, especially in the evening and night hours. It was stated that warnings should be followed, and it is expected that air temperatures in Istanbul will remain around seasonal norms or 5-8 degrees below until February 25. Istanbul residents are advised to take precautions against cold weather and snowfall, to be careful in traffic, and to avoid using private vehicles unless necessary.
