Azerbaijan's President Aliyev, stating that Turkey and Israel are close friends of Azerbaijan, expressed that any misunderstanding between these two countries concerns them.
The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, made a striking statement at the international forum titled "Towards a New World Order" held at ADA University.
"WE ARE CLOSE FRIENDS WITH BOTH COUNTRIES"
Stating that Turkey and Israel are close friends of Azerbaijan, Aliyev said, "We signed the Shusha Declaration in 2021. We are allies with Turkey." He also described Israel as "a friendly country for Azerbaijan," noting that this mutual friendship has been tested by various difficult situations for many years. Aliyev expressed that any misunderstanding that may occur between Turkey and Israel worries them for this reason.
HE ACTED AS A MEDIATOR FOR A PERIOD
Aliyev also stated that they acted as mediators during the period when the ice melted between Turkey and Israel and the first negotiations leading to the appointment of mutual ambassadors took place. Steps towards normalization were taken between Turkey and Israel, during which Israeli President Herzog visited Ankara and met with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. After Israel launched attacks on Gaza on October 7, 2023, tensions between the two countries rose again, and diplomatic relations were severed once more.
