It is claimed that the family of İsa Aras Mersinli, who carried out the attack in Kahramanmaraş, did not heed the psychological support warnings from the school. It was alleged that the mother, Pınar Peyman Mersinli, who rejected the guidance counselor's request for a meeting and hung up the phone, assessed her child's situation as "having adjustment issues because he is extremely intelligent."
Striking allegations have emerged in the investigation regarding the school attack in Kahramanmaraş, where 1 teacher and 8 students lost their lives. It has been claimed that the family of the 14-year-old attacker İsa Aras Mersinli ignored the psychological support warnings from the school.
"EXTREMELY INTELLIGENT, HAS ADJUSTMENT ISSUES"
According to information obtained from the investigation file by Yeni Şafak, the guidance counselor of Ayser Çalık Middle School, Ejder İ., tried to communicate with the family to discuss the student's psychological condition. However, it is claimed that the mother, Pınar Peyman Mersinli, rejected this request for a meeting and hung up the phone. It has been alleged that the family assessed their child as "extremely intelligent" and therefore having adjustment problems. This approach is said to be reflected in both the father's statements to the prosecutor's office and the texts reportedly written by the attacker. It has been learned that mother Mersinli was released shortly after a brief detention.
CLASSMATE'S TESTIMONY WAS HAUNTING
On the other hand, the accounts of student G. İ., who studied in the same class as İsa Aras Mersinli, also made a significant impact. G. İ. stated that Mersinli had no friends and exhibited strange behaviors in class: “He generally slept because he spent the whole night on the internet. Then sometimes he would get up during English lessons. His English was quite good, better than his Turkish. For example, if the teacher couldn't remember the meaning of an English word in class, he would ask İsa, and he would tell the teacher. Then what would he do? He would cry, he would cry when the class was quiet, you could hear his crying. Then our guidance teacher would come and take him to the guidance room, where he would talk.
"HE WOULD CUT HIS ARM, HIS DESK WOULD BE BLOOD"
It was like he had psychological troubles. For example, on Friday we were supposed to sing the National Anthem. He was sleeping again. Then the friends held his arm and brought him out. While reading, he suddenly collapsed to the ground as if he had fainted, and lay there like that. I remember that. Then when he was upset about something in class, he would cut his hand or arm with a pen, and his desk would be covered in blood. His desk, his bag, everything would be filled with blood. He would choke himself. In fifth grade, he had wrapped his bag around his neck. He had choked himself, you know. He was a different kind of child. In fact, he had two friends from our class he talked to. He told them he would do such things. He said something like, ‘I will attack the class, the school with a gun.’ They laughed, thinking he was joking. I know he said it a few days before the attack, that's what they told me.”
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
A gun attack had been carried out at Ayser Çalık Middle School located in the Oniki Şubat district of Kahramanmaraş. In the attack carried out by 16-year-old İsa Aras Mersinli, 9 people, including one teacher, lost their lives, and 17 others were injured. It was determined that the attacker used 5 firearms belonging to his father, who was at home during the incident. Following developments, the father, Uğur Mersinli, who was taken into custody, was arrested.
