The suspect who shot and killed his brother with a shotgun in Burdur claimed that his brother had attempted to sexually assault him. The suspect stated, "He locked me in the shed. I wanted to go to the village, but he wouldn't let me. He threatened, 'You won't tell anyone about this, or I'll kill you.' I had no intention of killing him. I wanted to shoot myself." Meanwhile, the parents stated that there was no feud between their sons and did not file a complaint.

On February 22, 2024, a chilling incident occurred in the goat barn in the mountainous area of Halıcılar village, which is connected to Burdur center. Gendarmerie teams, who found the body of Cihan Karaca (44) shot with a hunting rifle, initiated an investigation. The teams detained Cihan Karaca's father, Ahmet Karaca, and his brothers, Ahmet Karaca, Doğan Karaca, and Ferhat Karaca. In his statement to the prosecutor's office, Ahmet Karaca confessed to killing his brother, and he was arrested for "intentional murder" and sent to Burdur E-Type Closed Prison. Father Ahmet Karaca was released after his statement, while Doğan Karaca and Ferhat Karaca were released to be tried without detention.

SIBLINGS IN FRONT OF THE JUDGE

Ahmet Karaca, the detained defendant facing aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentionally killing a sibling who is unable to defend themselves," appeared before the judge along with the non-detained defendants Doğan Karaca and Ferhat Karaca. During the hearing, father Ahmet Karaca and mother Alime Karaca also testified as witnesses.

"MY BROTHER TRIED TO SEXUALLY ASSAULT ME"

In the case heard at the Burdur 1st Heavy Penal Court, defendant Ahmet Karaca claimed that his brother attempted to sexually assault him, stating, "Ferhat had gone to the village to get bread. He locked me in the shed. I wanted to go to the village, but he didn't allow me. He threatened me, saying, 'You won't tell anyone about this, or I'll kill you.' I was crying inside the shed. My brother later came to the shed and lay down. Suddenly, I lost control. I had no intention to kill. I took the hunting rifle that was leaning against the wall. I wanted to shoot myself. I aimed the rifle at my head. The victim turned towards me; I couldn't tell if he was asleep or not. I pointed the rifle at him. I lost control. My hands and feet were shaking. I fired twice. I regret it," he said.

"THE DECEASED CIHAN HAD NO ACTION AGAINST ME"

Doğan Karaca, who is being tried without detention, stated, "I do not accept the accusation. I work at a lumber factory in Isparta. I learned about the incident through a phone call at my workplace on the day of the event. I took permission from work and came to the scene."

Ferhat Karaca said, "Ahmet, Cihan, and I were staying together in the shed in the plateau. The day before the incident, I went to the village to get bread. I was not in the shed that day. I stayed with my family in the village. The deceased Cihan had no action against me. I heard about the incident in the morning," he said.

THE PARENTS DID NOT FILE A COMPLAINT

During the hearing, father Ahmet Karaca and mother Alime Karaca stated that there was no feud between their sons and said they were not complaining. The court adjourned the hearing to April 24. Speaking to reporters outside the courthouse, father Ahmet Karaca said, "We gave our statements. Who would want one of their children to die or to kill another? The incident happened in the plateau," he said.
