A landslide at an ongoing primary school construction site in the Balveren district of Şırnak caused the death of 32-year-old construction engineer Murat Bektaş. The young engineer, who was trapped under a suddenly collapsing pile of soil while in a 2-meter-deep drainage ditch to conduct elevation measurements, could not be saved despite all interventions at the hospital where he was taken.

A workplace accident at a primary school construction site in the Balveren district of Şırnak claimed the life of a young engineer. According to information obtained, the incident occurred in the evening at the Balveren Primary School construction site.

SOIL SLIDED WHILE MEASURING ELEVATION

Murat Bektaş, a 32-year-old civil engineer working on the construction project, entered an approximately 2-meter-deep drainage trench dug as part of work being carried out on the outer side of a retaining wall. While Bektaş was measuring the elevation in the trench, a mass of soil from the upper part of the wall suddenly slid and collapsed on him.

CITIZENS AND WORKERS MOBILIZED

His colleagues and nearby residents who saw the engineer buried under the soil rushed to help. After intense efforts using their hands and shovels, Bektaş was quickly extracted from under the soil.

Murat Bektaş, who received initial treatment at the scene by medical teams called to the location and was taken to Şırnak State Hospital in critical condition, could not be saved despite all efforts by doctors and lost his life.
