An incident that appeared to be a traffic accident in Kayseri's Melikgazi district turned out to be a chilling family murder. Examining camera footage, police determined that 22-year-old S.Ö. deliberately hit his former brother-in-law Serdar Coşkun, who was walking on the street, with a car and then ran over him. The suspect, who had a feud with his brother-in-law due to his sister's divorce four years ago, got out of the vehicle, checked the situation, and then fled. Two suspects, arrested after the brutality that ended with death at the hospital, were taken into custody.
A blood-curdling revenge murder emerged behind an incident that occurred last night in the Melikgazi district of Kayseri, initially recorded as a 'hit-and-run accident.' Homicide bureau teams examining camera footage determined that the driver had run over the pedestrian he struck with his car and fled the scene. It was revealed that the deceased was the driver's former brother-in-law, who had divorced his sister 4 years ago.
BRUTALITY DISGUISED AS ACCIDENT CAUGHT ON CAMERA
The incident took place around 01:00 last night on Kadir Has Boulevard in Bahçelievler District. A Tofaş brand car with license plate 38 AHS 929, driven by S.Ö. (22), sped into Serdar Coşkun (43) who was walking on the street and fled. The unfortunate man, taken to Kayseri City Hospital in critical condition, could not be saved despite all efforts of the doctors.
Following the incident, teams from the Kayseri Police Department's Public Order Branch Directorate Homicide Bureau launched an extensive investigation and scrutinized security cameras in the area. Examinations revealed that the incident was not an ordinary traffic accident, but that driver S.Ö. had intentionally driven his vehicle over Serdar Coşkun.
It was determined that the suspect, after hitting Coşkun, did not stop and ran over him with the car, then got out, checked on his former brother-in-law's condition, and calmly fled the scene.
4-YEAR DIVORCE HOSTILITY LEADS TO DEATH
As a result of police tracking, the vehicle used in the murder was found hidden in a building's parking lot. Realizing they would be caught, driver S.Ö. and his friend S.T. (23), who was with him at the time of the incident, called the 112 Emergency Call Center to report their intention to surrender and were taken into custody by police teams near their homes.
During the interrogation at the police station, the veil of secrecy behind the murder was lifted. It was learned that there was a deep-seated hostility between murder suspect S.Ö. and his former brother-in-law Serdar Coşkun, ongoing since his sister's divorce process 4 years ago.
TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED AND SENT TO PRISON
Following their procedures at the police station and health checks, driver S.Ö. and his friend S.T., who was in the car at the time of the murder, were referred to the courthouse and arrested by the duty court on charges of 'intentional killing' and sent to prison.
