Özer had also been included in the corruption investigation concerning the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
CHP Istanbul Deputy Turan Taşkın Özer has been investigated due to a social media post he made.
INVESTIGATION INTO CHP DEPUTY'S SOCIAL MEDIA POST
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated an investigation against CHP Deputy Lawyer Turan Taşkın Özer, citing his social media post as the reason.
In a statement made by the Chief Prosecutor's Office, it was stated, "An investigation has been initiated ex officio against Istanbul Deputy Turan Taşkın Özer for 'publicly disseminating misleading information' and 'insulting judicial authorities' regarding the organized crime investigation led by detained Ekrem İmamoğlu, in which false witnesses are being sought, some witnesses are being coerced into giving false testimony, and witnesses are being threatened, as shared on his social media account on March 26, 2025."
HERE IS THE POST THAT TRIGGERED THE INVESTIGATION
Özer used the following statements in the post that is the subject of the investigation: "A false witness is being sought for our Mayor Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu! You heard it right!
Female prisoners are being threatened by the prosecutor through SEGBİS, saying, 'If you don't cooperate, you won't see your children for years'; they are being forced to give false testimony against Ekrem İmamoğlu...
That's not all! During his tenure as the Mayor of Beylikdüzü, people he knows are being summoned to the prosecutor's office and coerced into giving statements. They are being pressured with the threat, 'If you don't confess, I will imprison you for false testimony.'
In the face of insufficient evidence, the judiciary is causing great harm to the justice system by trying to fill cases with fabricated witnesses, casting a shadow over the independence of the judiciary."
INCLUDED IN THE CORRUPTION INVESTIGATION
Moreover, CHP deputies Özgür Karabat and Turan Taşkın Özer were also included in the corruption investigation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, where Ekrem İmamoğlu was detained. The files of Karabat and Özer were separated due to lack of jurisdiction and sent to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
