THE PHRASE "CRYPTO SWORD RESIDUE" UNDER SCRUTINY
The incident leading to the investigation began with a post made by Kırıkkanat on the X platform on April 25. Kırıkkanat quoted a post about Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, using the phrase "Crypto sword residue." This expression quickly sparked debates on social media and was taken under review by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
EX OFFICIO INVESTIGATION BY THE CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that an ex officio investigation has been initiated against Kırıkkanat on charges of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility, and humiliation." The office determined that this statement, which Kırıkkanat reposted from her own account, exceeded legal boundaries, and filed a case.
TCK ARTICLE 216: INCITING THE PUBLIC TO HATRED AND HOSTILITY
As a result of the evaluations, it was stated that the characterization "Crypto sword residue" could be assessed under Article 216 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK). The legal process has officially begun against Kırıkkanat on suspicion that the statements may constitute the crime of inciting the public to hatred and hostility or humiliation.
The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued the following statement:
"In the review conducted on April 29, 2026, through open sources, it was determined that the X account with the username *_'Mine G. Kırıkkanat@mkirikkanat'_* on the social media platform X shared a post from the account 'Veryansıntv.com @veryansintvcom' containing the text 'Kılıçdaroğlu supported the abolition of the Oath! 'He has done good work in 40 years' with the comment _*'Crypto sword residue.'*_ on her own profile. Considering that the aforementioned post by the suspect, the social media user with the username *'Mine G. Kırıkkanat@mkirikkanat'* , may constitute the crime of Inciting the Public to Hatred and Hostility or Humiliation as defined in Article 216 of the Turkish Penal Code, an ex officio investigation has been initiated by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office."
