After CHP, a 'absolute nullity' shock in politics was also experienced in the Motherland Party. The party's grand congress held on December 24, 2023, was annulled by the court on the grounds of "forged signatures" and "invalid delegate votes." Following the decision, an invitation committee is expected to be appointed to take the party to a new congress within 45 days.
A critical decision has been handed down from the judiciary regarding the controversial grand congress process of the Motherland Party held on December 24, 2023. Following the Republican People's Party (CHP), a court also issued a 'absolute nullity' decision for the Motherland Party, annulling the congress.
FORGED SIGNATURE ALLEGATIONS CONFIRMED BY CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION
The person who brought the congress process to the judiciary was Sedat Kapıdağ, a member of the Motherland Party's Central Executive Board and Deputy Chairman responsible for Election Affairs. Kapıdağ's petition to the court included very serious allegations that forged signatures were made on behalf of some delegates.
During the criminal investigations conducted as part of the judicial process, attendance lists and delegate signatures for the congress were evaluated one by one by experts. It was revealed that clear determinations were made as a result of the investigations that some signatures were forged.
COURT'S ANNULMENT DECISION: LIKELY TO AFFECT THE OUTCOMES
According to information reported by TGRT Ankara News Coordinator Ahmet Sözcan; the Ankara 47th Civil Court of First Instance ruled that the forged signatures and invalid votes were of a nature that could affect the congress outcomes, officially annulling the grand congress held in 2023.
In the court's annulment decision, the fact that the current Chairman İbrahim Çelebi went to the congress with invalid delegate votes was cited as the main justification.
A CALL COMMITTEE WILL BE APPOINTED FOR A NEW CONGRESS
Following this flash annulment decision by the Ankara 47th Civil Court of First Instance, attention has turned to how the process will proceed.
According to allegations; after the court decision is served, an application will be made to the Supreme Election Council (YSK) and the appointment of a 'call committee' will be requested to urgently take the party to a new congress. This appointed committee is expected to initiate the new congress process within at most 45 days.
No official statement has yet been made from the party headquarters or from Chairman İbrahim Çelebi's side regarding the court's annulment decision.
