CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu informed MPs in a written statement that the TBMM CHP Group Meeting will not be held without his instruction. Kılıçdaroğlu stated that the date of the group meeting has not yet been determined, while maintaining his objection that the meeting where Özgür Özel was elected as Group Chairman is invalid. Özel, in a recent statement, said, "I will hold the group meetings until the congress."
The political earthquake in the Republican People's Party following the court's annulment decision is growing. While tensions between Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and Özgür Özel camps continue within the party, a striking new move came from Kılıçdaroğlu.
In an official letter sent to CHP deputies, Kılıçdaroğlu announced that the date for the TBMM CHP Group General Assembly meeting has not yet been determined and that the meeting will not be held without his instruction.
“WILL NOT BE HELD WITHOUT MY INSTRUCTION”
The letter sent to the deputies included the following statements: “It has been understood that questions and hesitations have arisen among Group members regarding the date on which the TBMM CHP Group General Assembly will be held. Therefore, I want you to know that the date for the TBMM CHP Group General Assembly meeting has not yet been determined by me. Once the meeting date is set, necessary notifications will be made to you. Unless the necessary information is provided as per my instruction on these matters, the TBMM CHP Group General Assembly will not be held.”
A NEW MOVE AGAINST ÖZGÜR ÖZEL
Kılıçdaroğlu’s move has reignited debates over group management in CHP. Previously, Kılıçdaroğlu had applied to the TBMM Presidency, arguing that the meeting in which Özgür Özel was elected CHP Group Chairman was invalid. In the application, it was claimed that Özel could not use the title of “Group Chairman.” Comments in party circles suggest that Kılıçdaroğlu wants to reshape the parliamentary group.
DUAL LEADERSHIP IMAGE IN CHP
Recent developments in CHP have made the division within the party more visible. Özgür Özel’s formation of a separate Eid greeting delegation in the TBMM, harsh disputes among CHP deputies in their WhatsApp group, and mutual accusations had drawn attention.
It emerged that disputes starting over luxury cars left in front of the party headquarters escalated to swearing among deputies, and the party's WhatsApp group was closed to comments.
PM MEETING ALSO POSTPONED
The Party Assembly and High Disciplinary Board meeting, which Kılıçdaroğlu was expected to convene after the holiday, was also postponed. The party management cited as a reason that official notifications had not yet reached members who returned to duty following the court decision.
EYES ON THE NEW ADMINISTRATION
Attention in CHP circles now turns to the new Central Executive Board that Kılıçdaroğlu will form. While claims that Berhan Şimşek will be appointed as the Party Spokesperson stand out in circles, it is being discussed that Kılıçdaroğlu plans to work with a 9-member A-team in the new term.
