Approval for a TikTok ban has been granted in the USA.

Approval for a TikTok ban has been granted in the USA.

17.01.2025 20:20

The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in favor of a law that anticipates a ban on the popular social media platform TikTok, determining that the app could be prohibited in the country. The law will come into effect on January 19.

A new development has occurred in the United States' battle against the social media application TikTok, which has gained significant popularity worldwide.

SUPREME COURT OFFICIALLY APPROVED THE BAN

The U.S. Supreme Court has approved a law that foresees the banning of TikTok in the country. The court stated that the law does not violate freedom of expression rights and determined that the U.S. government has presented legitimate national security concerns regarding the Chinese company ByteDance, which owns the application. The law will come into effect on January 19.

"THIS APPLICATION IS A SPY BALLOON ON AMERICANS' PHONES"

The U.S. House of Representatives had approved a bill last year that included a ban on TikTok in the country if the assets of the application, owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, were not sold to another company, with a vote of 360 to 58. Following the vote, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul stated, "This bill protects Americans, especially American children, from the harmful effects of Chinese propaganda on TikTok. This application is a spy balloon on Americans' phones."

TIKTOK CEO SAID "THE CONSTITUTION IS ON OUR SIDE"

TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew expressed that they expect to win the legal battle they have initiated to block the law approved by President Joe Biden, stating, "Rest assured, we are not going anywhere. The facts and the Constitution are on our side, and we hope to prevail again."
