The National Assembly of Armenia approved the bill to initiate the European Union membership process with 63 votes in favor and 7 against. The bill will come into effect after being signed by the President.
The National Assembly of Armenia has approved the draft law prepared to initiate Armenia's membership process in the European Union (EU).
According to the news from Armenia's official news agency Armenpress, in the vote held in the Assembly, the draft law titled "On the initiation of the Republic of Armenia's accession process to the European Union" was accepted with 63 votes in favor and 7 against.
The law in question will come into force following the approval of the President of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan.
PAŞİNYAN HAD INDICATED A REFERENDUM
In the meeting of the Armenian Cabinet of Ministers on January 9, it was decided to present the draft law regarding the EU membership process to the Assembly. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated in the meeting that Armenia's accession to the EU could only be possible through a referendum, as stipulated in the Constitution of Armenia, and not through a law or government decision.
