Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was arrested and sent to Marmara Prison in Silivri as part of a corruption investigation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), shared his first message from prison. In the message posted on İmamoğlu's social media account, it was stated, "There was a record level of participation in the presidential primary. 15 million of our citizens voted. That ballot box will come, and the nation will deliver an unforgettable slap to this government."

Ekrem İmamoğlu was arrested following a corruption operation targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and was detained by the Peace Criminal Court.

REMOVED FROM OFFICE

After his arrest, İmamoğlu was sent to Marmara Prison in Silivri and was removed from his position as the Mayor of Istanbul by the Istanbul Governorship.

PRIMARY ELECTION HELD

The primary election to determine the presidential candidate of the CHP, in which Ekrem İmamoğlu was the sole candidate, also began around the time of İmamoğlu's arrest. After the voting process, which ended at 19:00, approximately 15 million people voted.
