Haluk Levent, who was arrested in the investigation into the Ahbap Association, had previously described how he stole money from his mother's grocery store cash register and went to play okey six years ago. His statements from that time have resurfaced on social media after the major judicial operation, sparking debate.
In the major 'fraud' and 'money laundering' investigation coordinated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 18 people, including Ahbap Association founder and president Haluk Levent, were arrested and sent to prison.
HE TOLD HE STOLE MONEY FROM HIS MOTHER'S GROCERY STORE: I WAS GOING TO PLAY OKEY
After Levent was sent to prison, his striking past statements came under scrutiny. In the archived record that drew attention, Levent described how he stole money from the cash register of his mother's grocery store during his childhood and youth.
Stating that he was not a worthy son to his mother's efforts at the time, Levent said in the program: 'My mother built a house and raised us with money she had been sneaking from my father for years. I couldn't be a man worthy of her back then, I couldn't be a worthy son. In the face of her labor, I remember times when I would pay the customer's change from the grocery store drawer, put some money in my pocket, go to the coffeehouse, and play okey with the kids.'
IT BECAME A TOPIC OF DEBATE
This youthful anecdote that Haluk Levent shared on a YouTube program 6 years ago was reshared and became a topic of debate by social media users following today's major judicial operation and arrest decision.
