Fikret Albayrak, a CHP member who was arrested on charges of extortion in Akçakoca district of Düzce and subsequently suspended from his mayoral duties, was released after his objection to his detention was accepted. Hours after being freed following the Düzce Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's objection to the release decision, Albayrak was re-arrested upon leaving prison.
The objection to the detention of Akçakoca Mayor Fikret Albayrak, who was arrested on May 23, 2026, on charges of extortion and temporarily suspended from duty by the Ministry of Interior, was accepted by the court.
FIRST RELEASED

RE-ARRESTED HOURS LATER
The objection of the Düzce Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to the release decision was evaluated by the higher court. Upon acceptance of the objection, a re-detention order was issued for Albayrak just hours after his release.
