The ability of two siblings, who are 11 years apart in age, to unlock the same iPhone 11 model phone using the facial recognition feature has raised security concerns. The siblings stated, "We tried it several times and it unlocked every time. The brand updated the device, but the same issue occurred again. There is a serious security vulnerability. We will file an official complaint."
11-year-old İrem Kasap and 28-year-old Emel Kantar, living in the Kemalpaşa district of Artvin, discovered a serious security vulnerability due to a situation they noticed on their phones.
SISTER CAN ACCESS HER PHONE WITH FACE RECOGNITION
According to the claim, the iPhone 11 belonging to İrem Kasap unlocked itself by recognizing the face of her sister Emel Kantar, despite the approximately 11-year age difference between them. Initially considering the situation a coincidence, the siblings were shocked when the incident occurred multiple times with what they thought was a highly secure phone.
After the incident, the siblings contacted the phone's brand, claiming that remote updates and various adjustments were made to the device, but despite this, the problem reappeared shortly after. They expressed that the inability to find a permanent solution despite all attempts increased their security concerns.
"THERE IS DEFINITELY A SERIOUS SECURITY VULNERABILITY"
Emel Kantar, who explained that the incident was noticed while they were in the village, said regarding the events, "My sister gave me the phone, and I saw that the phone was unlocked. We thought it was a mistake and tried again. We scanned the face again, and it unlocked again. After that, I contacted the phone brand. They connected to the device remotely and made updates. There were no issues for a day or two, but later the phone started recognizing my face again. There is definitely a serious security vulnerability. I can access everything protected by face recognition. I haven't filed an official complaint yet, but I will," she said.
Phone owner İrem Kasap stated that she felt uncomfortable about the situation, saying, "Even though there is an 11-year age difference between my sister and me, she can access my phone whenever she wants. She can enter all my applications. This situation makes me quite anxious. We will file the necessary complaints," she said.
