People took to the streets in the U.S. Protests that began with the killing of a woman named Renee Good by ICE police and intensified with the detention of a 5-year-old child continue despite freezing temperatures. Thousands gathered in the squares chanting "ICE out," while experts warn of a potentially historic "crippling ice storm" nationwide.

Protests against the activities of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, continue en masse despite the extreme cold weather conditions. Hundreds of thousands marched in freezing temperatures demanding the removal of ICE from the Twin Cities. The demonstrations began after the killing of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent on January 7 and intensified with the detention of a 5-year-old child and their father on their way home from school.

REACTIONS INCREASE AT FREEZING POINT

According to reports in the foreign press, the protests were organized under the name "Day of Truth & Freedom" and were not limited to marches alone. Workers, unions, religious leaders, and local communities called for not going to work and closing schools and businesses despite the cold weather.

"ICE OUT!" SLOGANS

Demonstrators are combining these actions with demands for accountability regarding Good's death, the withdrawal of ICE from Minnesota, cuts to the ICE budget, and the protection of immigrant rights. Marches and rallies held in downtown Minneapolis are taking place with massive participation despite the freezing weather conditions. Protesters are chanting "ICE out!"

Despite the freezing cold, people gathered at The Commons in Minneapolis at noon and marched to the Target Center in the city center.

One of the demonstrators, while walking towards the Target Center with other protesters gathered in the city center, said, "Today is the coldest day of the year in Minnesota, and the largest protest to date is taking place."

FREEZING COLD AFFECTING THE COUNTRY

The National Weather Service (NWS) stated that more than half of the country will be under the influence of "freezing cold" along with heavy snowfall in the coming days.

"PARALYZING ICE STORM"

In a warning about a "paralyzing ice storm" that could be seen in a wide area extending from eastern Texas to the southern part of the country, it was emphasized that the snowy and stormy weather, which is described as "historic," will affect the central parts of the country starting today and will move eastward, bringing "widespread icing and dangerous cold."

The statement noted that approximately 30 centimeters of snow is expected in the northern regions of the country, while the possibility of mixed rain is more pronounced in a wide area covering southern Texas and Virginia.

Some weather forecasting experts speaking to U.S. media also noted that at least 172 million people could be exposed to these adverse weather conditions by Sunday.

TEMPERATURES MAY DROP TO MINUS 45

U.S. weather experts shared forecasts that temperatures could drop to minus 45 degrees in some parts of the country over the weekend.

Experts warned that, due to strong winds, "catastrophic icing" could occur, which could lead to prolonged power outages and create extremely dangerous conditions for travelers.

Additionally, various statements noted that the public in areas where storms and heavy snowfall are expected should be prepared for power outages.

SHELVES IN SUPERMARKETS ARE EMPTY

As authorities warn citizens to stay home as much as possible against the weather conditions that will affect most of the U.S. geography, Americans flocking to shopping centers have emptied most of the shelves in supermarkets.

In markets and supermarkets around New York and New Jersey, shelves containing essential food products such as water, bread, and pasta were inundated with customers, and shopping carts were filled to the brim.

In the country, a state of emergency has been declared in more than 10 states due to the weather conditions, and schools have also been closed.

Chain supermarket groups operating across the U.S. shared that they are making preparations to serve their customers under the current weather conditions, taking additional measures to ensure that essential supplies such as food products, batteries, and blankets do not run out.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) also announced that emergency operation centers equipped with additional personnel and snow removal equipment have been established at John F. Kennedy, Newark Liberty, and LaGuardia international airports ahead of the expected snowstorm this weekend.

PANYNJ officials, warning passengers flying from the three busiest airports serving two states about flight cancellations, advised travelers to regularly check their flight status.
