Attack on gold mine in Peru: 17 workers trapped.

In the La Libertad region of northern Peru, illegal miners attacked a gold mine. According to a statement made by local authorities, a collapse occurred after the attackers blew up the electricity transmission tower at the mine early Sunday morning. It was reported that an operation was launched to rescue 17 workers trapped in the mine due to the attack.

Segundo Armas, the Mayor of the Pataz district in the La Libertad region, stated that it is quite difficult to reach the area and that phone lines do not work in the mine.
