Following the record levels of credit card and personal loan debts in Turkey, the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) has offered a restructuring option of up to 48 months for cards and loans that currently have overdue payments, as published in the Official Gazette.

DEFERMENT OPTION FOR CREDIT CARD DEBTORS

This step provides a 'deferment' option for millions of credit card debtors, while new changes regarding cardholders will be brought to the agenda in the coming weeks.

CASH ADVANCE LIMITS WILL CHANGE

According to information from industry sources, the economic management, which has taken action for easing steps after months of persistent demands from banks, will raise the upper limit set for credit card cash advance transactions, which is currently applied at 25,000 TL, to 50,000 TL.

INSTALLMENT NUMBER WILL BE INCREASED TO 6 MONTHS

Additionally, as part of the normalization steps to be taken, the maximum number of installments applied for cash withdrawal transactions from credit cards will be increased from 3 months to 6 months. It is expected that the BDDK will implement these changes following the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey's (TCMB) Monetary Policy Committee meeting on July 24.
